Since moving to Denver, I have learned that while close proximity to world class skiing is amazing, summer play time is even better. Typically we spend our time on bicycles heading to Coors Field, a local brewery, or one of the many fantastic parks, but there is so much more.

Westword has highlighted 50 things to love about Denver and for all of you locals out there, it’s definitely worth a read. For example, did you know that checking out all of the awesomely bad tattoos at Water World is a thing? How about the May the 4th sci-fi costumer party or the Kinetic Sculpture Race? Where the Beer Flows Like Wine

I absolutely love California. There are few places join this incredible planet where you can go snow skiing and surfing in the same day. The landscape is beautiful, and restaurants are fantastic (In N Out hell yes).

I think what I like most though is the possibility. Every turn presents a new challenge or adventure. Mammoth and Tahoe in northern California provide some pretty incredible skiing (with beer of the same quality), and the mountains of southern California give the residents and tourists plenty of hiking and mountain biking trails. Venice Beach is pretty kitschy, but also has the best people watching on the planet.

Lauren and I are making the most for adventure with a quick family weekend. If I’ve missed anything as far as things to do, sound off in the comments.

Flying On A Monday

Utah Snow is Pretty Incredible, with Caveats…

Well, we are finally back from our trip to Utah for a good old fashioned Wolf Pack trip. As usual, the skiing was pretty good, the house was a lot of fun, and the Hall & Oats was blasting (thanks Jerad).

I’ve put together a little preview of me going down a chute. It’s nothing too crazy, but makes me smile every time I watch it. So what is the caveat I mentioned? Sometimes the canyons up there can get pretty sketchy, so much that if it starts snowing much at all, there’s a chance you may get stuck. Enjoy!

Google Science Fair is Open For Submissions

This isn’t completely related to travel and adventure, but is definitely worth a mention. The annual Google Science Fair is now open for submissions. In case you’re not aware of it, the Google Science Fair is “an online science competition open to students ages 13-18 from around the globe.”

This is Google’s push for student creativity, and it’s a damn good one. Last year’s grand prize winner, Brittany Wenger, developed a cloud medical app that accurately detects breast cancer with 99% accuracy. This is the type of stuff that will change lives.

Good luck to all participants in this year’s competition, let’s change the world.

Denver’s Restaurant Week is almost here

If you’re in the Denver area, you are probably privy to a little event called Restaurant Week. Restaurant week is actually two weeks full of restaurant deals all over the city. To participate, each restaurant offers a three to five course dinner for two for $52.80 (There’s that 5280 number again). This is huge as it makes some of the most expensive restaurants affordable for most couples.

The best part? They don’t skimp on the meals. Last year we ended up finding one of our favorite restaurants, ChoLon and absolutely loved it. If you haven’t had a chance to try out their soup dumplings yet, do yourself a favor and take advantage of their Restaurant Week promotion.
